The Prisoner of Shark Island (1936) was a Drama - Drama Film directed by John Ford and produced by Darryl F. Zanuck and Nunnally Johnson.

SYNOPSIS

Here is Ford's dramatization of the true story of Dr. Samuel Mudd (Baxter), the doctor who fixed fugitive John Wilkes Booth's ankle and was subsequently charged with conspiracy to murder President Lincoln. He is taken away from his loving wife (Stuart) and family and sentenced to life at Fort Jefferson Prison on Shark Island. Dr. Mudd soon is recognized by prisoners as an honorable man and a gentleman by the prison guards. A yellow fever epidemic breaks out among the prisoners and guards and Dr. Mudd risks his own life to save the victims. His heroic deed is recognized and his case is reopened.
