The plot of this film is based in part on the real life story of its writer/star, the dancer and actor Jack Donahue, who as a young man once worked as a riveter on the skyscrapers of Manhattan until he had a serious fall. As physical therapy, he learned how to tap dance, a skill which lead to his career in show business. He eventually became a dance director in Hollywood and then the film director of many television series, among them The Lucy Show. He married the co-star of this film, Tutta Rolf.
