MINI BIO:
Strikingly handsome black American singer/actor with mellifluous light voice who, strangely, didn't do his own singing in his biggest film hit, Carmen Jones. He has remained principally a record star, having several hits with calypso-style ballads, developing later into a portrayer of scruffy types in the occasional film, in contrast to his continuously smooth image as a singer. In 1984, he turned producer with the successful Beat Street. Father of actress Shari Belafonte. (Source: available at Amazon Quinlan's Film Stars).HONORS and AWARDS:

He was honored with one star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Recording. Belafonte was never nominated for an Academy Award.
