MINI BIO:
Dynamic, rather light-haired, pocket-sized American star, in films from childhood, after a stage debut at two in his parents' vaudeville act. Rooney could sing, dance, play piano and drums, and act in such an engagingly chirpy way that he was soon the favorite of millions. After a career in comedy shorts from the late twenties he joined MGM and, whether making The Hardy Family series or teenswing musicals with Judy Garland, became the world's number one box-office star for three years from 1939. After war service his star exploded, but he clawed his way back with some gritty acting performances, and popped up in featured roles. Special Oscars 1938 and 1983. Nominated for Academy Awards in Babes in Arms, The Human Comedy, The Bold and the Brave and The Black Stallion. Nine times married.
