Despite the film's obvious appeal, it has not (as of 2010) been released on video or DVD. It was last aired on US Broadcast TV in the 1970s.
The Broadway production opened at the St. James Theater on October 11, 1948 and ran for 792 performances. Ray Bolger Allyn Ann McLerieand Horace Cooper reprised their roles in the movie version.
Ray Bolger won Broadway's 1949 Tony Award as Best Actor (Musical) for "Where's Charley?," a part he recreated in the film version.
