SYNOPSIS
Sirk directs the story of an aging millionaire (Coburn) who wants to leave his fortune to the family of a woman who once spurned his proposal to marry. After anonymously donating the first $100,000, he poses as a border in the house to see if they're worthy of the rest. While dad sells the drug store and mom takes to social climbing with vengeance, the younger generation shows they're made of stronger stuff when Laurie refuses to dump her true love, soda jerk Hudson.
