SYNOPSIS

A famous concert pianist in '30s Spain travels to London to purchase a consignment of coal for the Loyalist struggle and prevent the Nazis from getting their hands on it. There he meets the beautiful Bacall and falls in love with her.

This is famously the movie where Howard Hawks said Lauren Bacall let her voice get high again, and as a result no one liked her in it. Curiously enough there is no sign of this in the actual movie. If no one liked her in it maybe she was just miscast as an Englishwoman.

Film debut of Wanda Hendrix.

Franz Waxman reused his title music for this movie in Dark Passage. The same music was also used over the title is To Have and Have Not.
