SYNOPSIS
Walter Winchell himself narrates this Hollywood version of the "true story" of New York's wackiest Mayor, James J. "Jimmy" Walker (Hope). Walker's an obscure song-and-dance man who plays puppet politician for Tammany Hall gangsters. The crooks see to it he's installed in the city's most important office. As mayor, Walker spends his time chasing show-girl and movie-star Betty Compton (Miles) and avoiding the wrath of his wife Allie (Smith), while an endless assortment of crooks have their hands in the city coffers.
