Gracie Fields Overview:
Legendary actress, Gracie Fields, was born Grace Stansfield on Jan 9, 1898 in Rochdale, England. Fields died at the age of 81 on Sep 27, 1979 in Capri, Italy .
MINI BIO:
Bubbling, dark-haired British comedian/singer, whose Lancashire-slanted mixture of comic songs and romantic ballads made her the most popular recording star of her day. Despite coming to films in her thirties, she quickly became Britain's (and, briefly, the world's) highest-paid film star, cruising her chirpy personality through a series of soft-centered, artfully-contrived tragi-comedies. Lost her popularity (and her British film career) when deciding to live abroad during World War II. Married (second of three) director/comedian Monty Banks (1897-1950). Created Dame in 1979. Died from a heart attack. (Source: available at Amazon Quinlan's Film Stars).HONORS and AWARDS:

She was honored with one star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Radio. Fields was never nominated for an Academy Award.
