Treasure Island (1950) Facts
There have been eight ships named Portland in the Royal navy. Silver is most likely referring to the third one, a 50-gun fourth rate launched in 1744.

"Lux Radio Theater" broadcast a 60 minute radio adaptation of the movie onJanuary 29, 1951 with Bobby Driscoll reprising his film role.

Bobby Driscoll only had a 3 month work permit in England so all his scenes were filmed first, a long way out of continuity, in order to complete his role in time.

The featured performance of Robert Newton as Long John Silver is so iconic that it is thought by many to be the origin of today's stereotypical "Arrrrr"-laced pirate patois.

The name 'Long John' refers to cannibalism. This is reinforced when Ben Gunn mentions that Long John Silver will treat him like 'pork' if he finds him.
