The Royal Family of Broadway (1930) was a Comedy - Black-and-white Film directed by George Cukor and Cyril Gardner .

SYNOPSIS

This ultimate in backstage comedy is directed by Cukor, an experienced theater director who demonstrates real affection for his characters and setting. The wicked parody of the Barrymores finds March coming home after a sojourn in Hollywood. His arrival causes an uproar outside the home and inside, as the family matriarch Crosman views his movie career as beneath the family. She also worries that the family legacy is fading as her daughter (Claire) retires from the stage to marry and the next generation proves unwilling to carry on. Crosman hits the boards once again, which threatens her health but re-inspires her children.

Based on the Broadway play "The Royal Family" by George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber which opened at the Selwyn Theater on December 28, 1927 and ran for 345 performances.
While Ina Claire and Henrietta Crosman are riding down Broadway in a taxi, they pass a movie marquee advertising co-star Fredric March's previous film, Laughter.
"Theater Guild on the Air" broadcast a 60 minute radio adaptation of the movie on December 16, 1945 with Fredric March reprising his film role.
One of over 700 Paramount Productions, filmed between 1929 and 1949, which were sold to MCA/Universal in 1958 for television distribution, and have been owned and controlled by Universal ever since.
