The character of Miss Marple's friend, Mr. Stringer, was not part of the original story. The part was written for Stringer Davis who was married to Margaret Rutherford.
During the opening journey on the 4.50, Miss Marple reads "Death Has Windows" by Michael Southcott: this was a fictitious novel mocked up by the production team. Towards the close of the film she has a Fontana paperback copy of "Murder is Easy" by her creator, Agatha Christie.
Despite privately remaining unimpressed by the film, Agatha Christie dedicated her 1962 book "The Mirror Crack'd From Side to Side" to Margaret Rutherford, "in admiration".
Craddock's forename is never given on-screen, though his office door gives the initial as 'R'.
The part of Alexander was dubbed by child actor Martin Stephens, who had appeared in such films as Village of the Damned and The Innocents.
