Walter Huston was originally to have played Skipper Miller, but he died just as production began.
"Lux Radio Theater" broadcast a 60 minute radio adaptation of the movie onOctober 15, 1951 with Edmund Gwenn reprising his film role.
This film was based on the true story of Emerich Juettner, an elderly junk dealer in New York who, like the character in the movie, only used counterfeit dollar bills to make ends meet. He was arrested in 1948 and sentenced to nine months in jail and a $1 fine.
"The Screen Guild Theater" broadcast a 60 minute radio adaptation of the movie on April 19, 1951 with Edmund Gwenn, Dorothy McGuire and Burt Lancaster reprising their film roles.
