No one took me seriously. Every time when I opened my mouth to speak, my students laughed, the other professors laughed, even the janitors laughted. Well, I knew it couldn't go on for long before I would be fired by the dean who did not want a professor that his students didn't take seriously. So one day at lunch, I sat down in the student cafeteria and presented my problem to this old professor friend of mine. And without even glancing up from his soup, he said to me: "buy yourself a pair of glasses and grow a beard." So you see, all of this is just 18 years of professor windowdressing.

Although "old fogey" Professor Sutwell knew nothing about beach life, actor Robert Cummings was a competent surfer himself, as documented in personal home movies shot in Hawaii by Hollywood's television host and author Ken Murray.
Professor Sutwell gives his first names as Robert Orville - the same as Bob Cummings's own adopted names.
Was intended as a low-budget imitation of Elvis Presley's musical movies, with added teen appeal, but the series took on a life of its own.
Average Shot Length = ~7.1 seconds. Median Shot Length = ~6.4 seconds.
Shameless self-promotion.. at one point Dorothy Malone says toRobert Cummings, "I hope you keep the picture rights, sell it to American International and make a fortune!" referring to the very studio that made "Beach Party".
