Cummings was married to Betty Kern, daughter of composer Jerome Kern. He later produced a remake of his father-in-law's 1933 stage musical, "Roberta", entitled Lovely to Look at (1952). The play had previously been filmed by RKO (Roberta (1935)).
Nephew of Louis B. Mayer, head of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios.
